Great Drives Near Whitestone Garage: Lancaster to Pendle

Blackburn to Lancaster

From our site in Blackburn, make your way straight up the M6 to Lancaster and the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park, which is worth stopping to see. Lord Ashton ordered construction of this monument in celebration of his own life and work, and it has remained in the park since 1807.

Williamson Park to The Forest of Bowland

Re-join the M6 until you reach Exit 36, and continue on the A65 through Kirkby Lonsdale. Proceed to take the A683 and follow directions to Bentham, enjoying glimpses of the River Lune and peace of the Lancaster countryside. You’ll be heading South through Bentham, continuing all the way to the Forest of Bowland.

The Forest of Bowland to Pendle Hill

Continuing through the wilderness and out of Lancaster, you will come across the small village of Slaidburn. There are plenty of pubs in which to grab a bite to eat around this area, and once you are ready to get back on the road, join the B6478 to Clitheroe.

Head East and you will find Pendle Hill, where the famous Pendle Witches lived and supposedly performed heinous acts, before they were hanged more than 400 years ago. From here, the A59 will take you back toward Blackburn.
