Things to Do in and Around Blackburn
Blackburn is an interesting town in Lancashire, 9 miles east of Preston, that is full of hidden gems. When you visit Whitestone Garage, it is definitely worth visiting some of the area’s attractions.
Blackburn Cathedral
This Anglican Cathedral is the heart of the community. Admire the brilliant architecture and the stunning collection of religious art, including a modern 35-foot sculpture on the building’s exterior.
Blackburn Museum
Blackburn Museum is a beautiful Grade II listed building full of intriguing exhibits. Opened in 1874, the museum features a fascinating section of Egyptian history, a fine collection of Japanese art, an interesting display of colourful beetles from all over the world, plenty of facts about Blackburn’s own history and an impressive coin collection gifted by Robert Edward Hart.
The Chapel Galleries
Just 500 feet away from the museum and also within a Grade II listed building, you will find The Chapel Galleries. From collages and sculptures to photographs and film, this is not one to be missed by art lovers.
Canal Boat Cruises of Riley Green
Make your way to Riley Green Marina, on the outskirts of Blackburn, and cruise along the canal. On a pleasant day, this is an incredibly relaxing experience.
Samlesbury Hall
Step into the 14th Century at Samlesbury Hall. This well-preserved building is situated halfway between Blackburn and Preston and offers a wealth of historical insight, as well as antiques and exhibitions. With extensive grounds to explore and excellent eateries, Samlesbury Hall is a great day out.

If you time your visit right, you may be able to catch a show at one of the three theatres in Blackburn: King George’s Hall, Thwaites Empire Theatre and Darwen Library Theatre. Between these, there is a wide variety of entertainment on offer.
